Joseph Scharsch Pinot Gris Clos Saint Materne 2006 13% abv
Very strongly mineral, with red fruit and earthiness; full bodied but not as heavy and ponderous as the bad examples are, rather this is very light on its feet. Ripe but very mineral, good grip for the grape. Scharsch in my experience makes very pure examples of the Alsace grapes and is great QPR. This Clos St. Materne is a step up from the regular Pinot Gris (which is nice in its own right).
Smoked salmon pasta was just right with it - this had the acid to stand up to the greasyness of the fish, yet the body to stand up to the full flavours.
